MEA CULPA

Overview

This project was done during Experimental Game Design at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The game itself was initially developed within the Unity Game Engine in 6 weeks and development is currently still in progress. Our team presented this game at the New York Pavillion at GDC 2024.

Mea Culpa is a horde-style boomer shooter that inverts the tropes of the genre’s badass demon-slaying protagonist by turning them into prey, a doomed coward attempting to survive in a pitch black hell of their own creation. The player’s arsenal is suited to give them snapshots of the battlefield around them, with weapons that produce light in unique ways and a guiding lamp that enables whip-like grapple movement. As players last longer, they’ll learn why they’re trapped here, and if they even have a hope of escaping.

The Aquatic Messenger

Overview

I joined this project at the beginning of the Summer of 2023, initially working just as a programming and shifting to a mentor/management role in the Spring of 2024.

What if there were creatures on earth that were relatively unknown, yet they were responsible for all the freshwater on the planet?
Can ancient forms of plankton from over 10,000 years ago help us understand the future of freshwater ecology?
Sound like a scifi movie? Actually, these are the realities of real world plankton!
The Aquatic Messenger is a VR experience that takes you through various time periods and lets you see the different aquatic species that lived there from miniscule plankton to fish that live today.
